Ominimo Becomes Central and Eastern Europe's First Insurance Unicorn, Reaching a $1.6 Billion Valuation
Warsaw, 27/07/2026 – Ominimo has become CEE's first insurance unicorn after
successfully closing its Series B funding round at a valuation of USD 1.6 billion, with
European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as a lead investor.
Ominimo uses artificial intelligence and advanced modelling to identify safer drivers who
are overpaying for their insurance and offer them lower premiums. By selecting better
risks, the company is able to grow rapidly while remaining profitable.
The company was founded in 2024 by Dusan Komar, Dennis Weinbender and Laslo
Horvath. Since launching, Ominimo has expanded into four EU markets and plans to
enter six more, as well as the US, over the next year.
"Reaching unicorn status is an important milestone and a strong vote of confidence in
Ominimo's technology, business model and capabilities. What makes me proudest,
however, is the extraordinary team behind it. We have been fortunate to assemble what
I believe is the highest concentration of data science, software engineering and
insurance talent in Europe, and this achievement belongs to every one of them. I would
also like to thank Zurich Insurance Group for being an outstanding partner throughout
this journey, EBRD for being an exceptionally founder-friendly and pragmatic investor,
and our nearly quarter of a million Polish customers for placing their trust in us. Their
confidence has helped make Poland the fastest-growing market in the Ominimo Group,
and we are only just getting started." said Dusan Komar, founder and CEO of
Ominimo.
In less than two years, Ominimo has grown to nearly one million customers and an
annual business volume exceeding $350 million, making it the fastest-growing tech
company in the insurance world.
"Ominimo is one of the most impressive insurtech companies we have evaluated,
combining exceptional growth with strong business fundamentals. We are delighted to
support the company in its next phase of development and look forward to a long-term
partnership as it continues its remarkable growth journey," said Bruno Lusic from the
EBRD.
Poland has played a key role in Ominimo's international expansion since becoming the
company's second market in July 2025. Through its partnership with Zurich Insurance
Group, Ominimo has rapidly established itself as the fastest-growing insurer in the
country. In just twelve months, the company has grown to serve nearly 250,000 customers through a network of more than 10,000 sales partners, demonstrating its ability to support customers throughout the entire insurance journey.
"Poland is arguably one of the most sophisticated and competitive insurance markets in
Europe, with more than 20 insurers, many of them supported by second brands and
highly advanced data science capabilities. Competing successfully in such an
environment is one of the strongest validations of Ominimo's technology and
underwriting capabilities. We are very pleased not only with our growth in Poland, but
also with the quality of the portfolio we have built. The Polish market has seen several
unsuccessful new market entrants over the years, making many customers and
distribution partners understandably cautious about new players. We are proud to have
earned their trust, having sold nearly 250,000 policies and already successfully handled
more than 2,000 claims, proving that customers do not have to choose between fair,
competitive premiums and a fast, transparent and reliable claims experience.” said
Luka Bucan, Group COO and CEO of Ominimo Poland.
