Ominimo in Poland – who are we?

Ominimo in Poland – who are we?

Everyone has neat and precise descriptions in their CV, and on LinkedIn, we build our professional image. But who are we really?

Insurance enthusiasts professionally, and beyond that – fans of sports, travel, and cooking. And from different corners of the world at that. We even have a pilot and a regular quiz show contestant on board!

Here is the core of our Polish team - in their own words!

But make no mistake - there are many more people involved in the background.

Luka Bucan
Chief Executive Officer in Poland and COO of Ominimo Insurance Group

Where am I from? Originally from Belgrade, Serbia. I have lived in six countries and visited over 50 on four continents. I studied in Paris, where I earned both my bachelor's and master's degrees.

Professional Profile: Since the beginning of my professional career, I have been involved with startups in various forms. My first experience was managing for 2 years a sales team at Rocket Internet in Berlin. Later, I joined McKinsey & Company, where for eight years as an Associate Partner, I helped the largest insurance companies and financial institutions undergo digital and analytical transformations. Today, I am Group COO at Ominimo Insurance and CEO of Ominimo Poland. I am leading the development of the Polish branch from scratch – it is one of my greatest professional challenges and achievements. On a daily basis, I handle operational processes across the entire group and support the growth of our development center in Serbia.

After Hours! And what do I do outside of work? I try to do as much sport as possible. Basketball, padel, tennis, and skiing – in my opinion, these are the best ways to get your head away from the screen.

Szymon Ściechowski
Backend Developer

Where am I from? I was born in Mrągowo and grew up in nearby Piecki. I graduated from CKZiU in Mrągowo as an IT technician, and now I am supplementing my knowledge regarding the use of artificial intelligence at WSB Merito in Gdańsk.

Professional Profile: Technology has fascinated me since I was a child. It started with an interest in hardware and how much could be "squeezed" out of a computer. In technical school, I focused on programming, and it stayed that way. I took my first "steps" in C++, followed by HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The turning point was meeting an experienced programmer, Patryk, who showed me what software development looks like in practice, rather than just from a textbook. I have been working at Ominimo for over a year, where I primarily value two things. The first is having a real impact on the company's development. The second is the atmosphere – open and based on cooperation. That’s why I constantly try to develop my skills and support my colleagues in doing the same.

After Hours! After hours? The gym, nature, fishing, and books – mainly fantasy and personal development.

Marcin Wituch
Insurance and claims Specialist

Where am I from? I come from Lublin.

Professional Profile: I started my adventure with insurance in 2012 – my first job was a consultant position in a call center, and I immediately knew that this was the industry I wanted to stay in. After a few months, I moved to the claims settlement department, and as early as mid-2013, I began handling foreign claims. This was an area that hooked me for years. Over the following years, I built teams, managed foreign claims settlement processes, and coordinated cooperation between different departments of insurance companies. Finally, in November 2024, I joined Ominimo as an insurance specialist. On a daily basis, I handle claims settlement, complaint processing, and policy administration.

After Hours! Privately? Automotive is my element – I follow the industry, I’m interested in technological development, and I like to stay up to date. And when the weather is favorable, I get on my bike and head out into the field.

Michał Cabaj
Sales Director

Where am I from? I come from Nowy Sącz, started my career in Kraków, then worked in Warsaw, and now I live in Sopot.

Professional Profile: I have been active in the insurance industry for nearly 20 years – on several levels. I have been on the side of insurance companies as well as intermediaries. Throughout this time, however, one thing has fascinated me: building sales organizations and developing long-term partnerships with distribution networks. I started my career at SIGNAL IDUNA Polska, where I moved through successive management levels in insurance sales and marketing – all the way to the position of Sales Office Director, responsible for multi-agency channels. My next stop was ERGO Hestia, where as Deputy Director in the Sales Department, I supervised key sales structures and distribution development. Before joining Ominimo, I served as Sales Director at Efficient Insurance Solutions. Today, I am the Sales Director at Ominimo Insurance, where I am responsible for sales strategy and relations with multi-agency networks.

After Hours! In my free time, I like to cook for my loved ones and travel with my family.

Gojko Ubiparip
Core Developer

Where am I from? I was born in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Professional Profile: I have been involved with IT for as long as I can remember – even in primary school, I created my first websites in Dreamweaver. In high school, I took the subject seriously enough that my computer science teacher excused me from regular classes and allowed me to use that time to build a website about our class and its students. Looking back, I see it clearly: IT was simply what I always returned to and what gave me the most pleasure. Over the years, I have worked on various projects – I was also one of the creators of Ominicore (our inhouse insurance platform).

After Hours! What do I focus on outside of work? Basketball, gaming, and cycling. And coffee – no jokes here, I’m a true fan.

Nikola Lukic
Senior Business Analyst

Where am I from? I come from Belgrade. Before I moved to the UK, I spent part of my youth in Kuala Lumpur – that’s where I finished high school.

Professional Profile: On a daily basis, I work at Ominimo as a Senior Business Analyst – in a place where business strategy, IT, and data science meet. I help translate data and technological capabilities into concrete insurance solutions, supporting operations in Poland and participating in expansion into further European markets. I completed my bachelor's and master's degrees in finance and business at the University of Edinburgh, where I was also the founder and first president of the university's Investment Banking Society. I started my career in private equity in Vietnam, where I was involved in the establishment of a $200 million climate investment fund – one of the first of its kind in the region, financing sustainable projects across Southeast Asia.

After Hours! In my spare moments, I travel a lot and absorb different cultures. I am passionate about motor sports, especially motocross. I am also realizing a long-postponed dream – I am currently earning my pilot's license.

Jesus Sono
Senior Staff Data Scientist

Where am I from? I was born in a small town in Peru, but moved to Barcelona when I was just a few years old.

Professional Profile: I studied theoretical physics at the University of Barcelona, where I built my mathematical foundation and learned analytical thinking – these skills pay off for me every day. Programming caught my attention when I was 13 years old. Building something from nothing using code and an idea – it’s fascinating. I always try to figure out how individual things work – both complicated mathematical models and business systems. I started my career at the Spanish branch of Allianz as an intern and gradually climbed the ladder to the level of Data Analysis Manager, managing data science processes across the entire organization. That’s where I learned how advanced analytics translates into real business decisions – particularly in the area of pricing and risk assessment. Later, I went into consulting to broaden my skills and see how different industries function. I led data science projects in many sectors, helping companies turn data into strategy and measurable results. Today, I work as a Senior Staff Data Scientist at Ominimo, where I am responsible for data science and pricing processes. Invariably, however, one thing drives me to action: combining complicated technical aspects with business results. I build mathematical models that are not only correct but allow us to grow the company.

After Hours! Privately, I run a lot and follow with bated breath everything related to space exploration and rocket technology. In this way, I don’t forget that progress – whether in technology, business, or personal life – always requires pushing boundaries.

Uros Trnavcevic
Senior Data Scientist

Where am I from? I grew up in a small village in Serbia, where curiosity was probably my main hobby. From an early age, I wanted to understand how things work and why different systems function the way they do. This curiosity eventually led me to Belgrade, where I studied at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Belgrade.

Professional Profile: During my studies, I got hooked on topics related to statistics, stochastic systems, optimization, and machine learning. While still a student, I landed an internship at a company specializing in radar technology – that’s where I wrote my bachelor's thesis and was hired as a Junior Machine Learning Engineer. I worked on safety systems for the automotive industry. A year and a half ago, I joined Ominimo as a Data Scientist. I handle pricing models, machine learning, and insurance analytics. My experience with vehicle safety systems naturally connects with motor insurance and thinking about risk. At Ominimo, I most value the pace and energy of the place. Ideas quickly become reality, decisions are made without unnecessary delay, and data science is applied directly to solving business problems – including how we model and price risk. Surrounding myself with ambitious people who care about success drives me every day.

After Hours! And what about after hours? Basketball, chess, travel, and… participating in quiz shows. As you can see – we cannot be pigeonholed, and coffee talks in the office revolve around many different topics. Sometimes even cosmic ones! This mix of characters and interests allows us to look at insurance from different perspectives and with a "fresh mind". We don’t just analyze risk; we understand the dynamics of change because we ourselves are constantly pushing our own boundaries.
