Average Polish woman driver
Petrol up to 100 HP with a manual gearbox – this is what the average Polish woman’s car looks like
- Golf, Astra and Yaris are the car models most frequently chosen by Polish women.
- A typical Polish woman’s car is usually a petrol vehicle with up to 100 HP and a manual
transmission. - On average, women obtain their driving license around the age of 20, drive 10–15 thousand
km per year, and park in a private garage.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, we examined the profile of the average
Polish woman behind the wheel based on an analysis of motor insurance policies from its
database. The data shows that the largest group consists of women aged 41+, who most
often drive Volkswagen, Opel or Ford cars and cover between 10 and 15 thousand
kilometers annually.
“Most women pass their driving test at the age of 19–21. This means that the majority are
experienced drivers who also appreciate the value of effective insurance. Even when they
purchase only mandatory third-party liability insurance (MTPL), they tend to add extra
protection such as assistance, tire insurance, or personal accident insurance. However, I
encourage a more comprehensive approach to insurance. It is worth considering your past
claims history, including those not previously covered by insurance. Based on that, it is best
to choose additional packages, and above all consider purchasing comprehensive insurance
(casco) or mini casco,” - says Luka Bucan, CEO of Ominimo Poland.
What cars do Polish women drive?
In their automotive choices, Polish women tend to opt for well-established brands that have
been present on the market for years. Leading the ranking are Volkswagen vehicles (10.6%
of cars). They are followed by Opel (9.6%) and Ford (8.1%).
Looking at specific models, the podium is slightly different. While Golf and Astra take the top
spots, Yaris comes third.
Top 5 models driven by Polish women:
- Volkswagen Golf – 3.7%
- Opel Astra – 3.6%
- Toyota Yaris – 3.3%
- Opel Corsa – 2.8%
- Ford Focus – 2.8%
It is also worth noting that most women drive petrol cars (61%) with engines between
55–100 HP (63%), manual transmission (92%), and park them in garages (51%). The
average age of insured vehicles is 15 years.
“As we can see, Polish women value functionality and cost-efficiency in vehicles. This also
translates into their approach to car insurance, where rational and responsible decision-
making is key. 83% of women pay for insurance in a single installment, which is always the
most cost-effective option. I would also like to highlight that women use assistance services
more frequently than men—they contact assistance providers almost 50% more often; for
every 100 claims from men, there are 145 from women,” - adds Luka Bucan.
What should you pay attention to when buying car insurance?
Every vehicle owner in Poland is required to purchase mandatory third-party liability
insurance (MTPL). However, the insurance market offers many additional solutions. These
include comprehensive insurance (casco) and mini casco, which protect against theft or
random events. Coverage can be extended with assistance, additional insurance for
windows, tires, luggage, and personal accident insurance (NNW).
